Granada 19 (the grave of fascism)

November 26th, 2009 at 14:43

“Granada” is a travelogue in 19 parts. This is the final installment.
Read part 1 here.

Monuments are sites of symbolic exchange.

Last week Granada’s monument to José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder + leader of the anti-republican, fascist Falange party, was decorated with a laurel crown, the symbol of victory and invincibility. Thus decorated the monument speaks about the future (rather than the past or the present) for Primo de Rivera was neither victorious nor invincible — found guilty of anti-republican conspiracy and insurrection he was sentenced to death and executed on Nov. 20, 1936.

Today someone left a reply.

  1. Robespierrejr FRANCE Says:

This act is a vandalism!!!…Graph an historic monument is a real act of fascism!!!…Franco stay the winner for making confusion in mind of Spanish people!José Antonio Primo de Rivera IS NOT Franco and his doctrin is abslutly far away Franco’s idea!!!Historicaly Franco recuperate the concept of Falange and erease all importants concepts:help of poor people and little farmers, agriculture politic and all social wiew for the better future of Spanish people!Franco is a great layer and never he will use the real Falange politic! For proof:just after the victory, the authentic falangists were tryed to fight Franco and his point of wiew but ALL were killed, emprisoned or deported*(the more famous was Manuel Hedilla intim friend of José Antonio and fighter of the original Falange, exiled in jail by Franco in 1939 at Canaries islands).
It’s a pity Spanish people don’t know exactly the truth about José Antonio the real Falange.José Antonio wasn’t never a fascist but just a revolutionnary man in very sens of term as Robespierre in France in 1789.
José Antonio hate the violence and think to used it in very last solution!
Just before his execution he write in a letter he wasn’t never agree with Franco’s projects to start the war!But this capital infomration is censured many long time by Franco’s regim, and the book wich explain the verity:Face to Face is forbidden many time in Spain! This book explain the conditions of José Antonio’s parody’s process and tesmatent of José Antonio.José Antonio was never Spanish blood on his hands and he write before the execution:”As my blood was the last versed in civil Spanish conflict”…It’s a peace message, not a warrior position…José Antonio loved is country and his people more than him, and that’s attitude taked his life.
Franco the opportunist and professional lier recuperate Falange symbols but only in apprence. The veritable doctrin was never applicated by Franco’s regim because more social, more near poor people!
I’m so sad to see Spanish people don’t know his history and the falsification of Franco live again!
I’m sure if José Antonio would speak about a more tragical moment of civil wa:Guernica, he would say that:”Franco is a murderer and I’ll fight him till at the end!”.
José Antonio was a real martyr of civil war, but never Franco’s martyr, just real martyr of real Spanish révolution and justice!
